about

Let's imagine for a moment that there is something 'more'. Something 'other'. Something beyond our provable reality. Will you let me weave some sonic tapestries, both familiar and 'left field' and take you on a journey into another realm?

Welcome to the Afterlife! What happens when we pass? opinions vary of course. As with everything in life. We choose what we want to believe. What resonates with us most. The perennial questions, such as what are we here for? what is the meaning of life? is there a bigger picture? do our experiences and our choices on this plane have any consequences beyond this realm? what if this is the 'in person' experience for our soul or spirit, which has an existence way beyond our comprehension? What if everything we learn on this plane feeds into a greater understanding on another level to aid the greater good?

"Helen it’s amazing!!!
I love the whole album, how you have brought it together. The ideas and concepts. It’s breathtaking. An amazing piece of art that truly makes us think about and accept with joy, instead of fear and trepidation, the thought of the afterlife" Sally Mudge (who played the sound healing instruments on Gloria, track 6).

TWO TRACKS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR INCLUSION IN 'FRESH ON THE NET - ECLECTIC PICKS'

Gloria was one of 8 (chosen out of 178 tracks) to be included in Eclectic Picks selection for Tom Robinson's iconic Fresh on the Net portal, by Hannya White (29th March 2023) and I Am Here For You (track 16) also made the coveted list in November 2022 thanks to Michael Donoghue curating the selection (which is run by Signal Committee).

"Loved this album, it flowed beautifully and melodically from one track to the next with a coherent, meaningful, theme running through it like a golden thread and is thus best listened to in order like all great concept albums. Helefonix is going from strength to strength; this really is a magical sonic treat". Vick Bain

“I love how she explored the ethereal sound, it had this vibe like it was coming from another plane, it made it feel like you were out of phase with it and with its origins. This is one of the trippiest, but also the most profound things that Helen's ever done.” Chris West, live on air.

“I love it…totally not what I expected but really soundscapey and vibey...top stuff” Dan Sealey

“A superb piece of work, thought provoking and hauntingly beautiful” Richard Sinclair

“I’m actually finding it hard to listen to emotionally, which is a good thing. Quite something you’ve created” Minnie Birch

“A real accomplishment. You are brilliantly exploratory. You find many sonic nuggets that are pleasing and as an album it is coherent and has a really strong message with titles that match the mood. I am very impressed” Joe Adhemar

I have read books and listened to first person experiences on this topic and drawn my own conclusions. As we all have a tendency to do. I felt moved to create an album which looks at many of the steps I believe we travel through when we leave this plane. Please indulge me and let me take you on a journey!

The tracks are in sequence and take us on a profound journey. Which applies as much to our lived experiences here on earth as they might do in another more nebulous realm. So this album is not quite 'of this world'. There's some surprises here and there in the instrumental and the experimental nature of the compositions. There's also the familiar approach to song writing but the messages are open to interpretation.

So here's how I am approaching this concept album. Which starts at point where there's the initial change in our situation (intro track Aura), the potential reluctance to cross (Easier Said Than Done 02 and Stay 03), followed by shock, confusion and disbelief, perhaps resistance to let go of our physical bodies.
This is followed by a realisation that there is no choice, tracks 04 I Will Go and 05, Haul Away, express the acceptance to take the path being offered gracefully.

Where the vocals are indistinct this is deliberate. The pertinent vocals are clear and are usually the main message which is echoed in the track title.

We then move into the second part of the process of entering the Afterlife, with a more accepting mind set, we might find everything so alien and uncomfortable, and see images, colours and hear sounds we've not experienced before (Gloria 06).
This track is perhaps the most experimental and for the first minute or so exclusively uses recordings I made of my friend Sally Mudge demonstrating her sound healing instruments. (which I then layered). The star of the show is Gloria, her huge gong. Hence the rather fitting name of the track, helping us express exhaltation and the pure untethered-ness we might experience on entering a different realm. Things can appear all at once to be similar but also completely strange. I hope this track conveys this juxtaposition.

As we gradually get accustomed to our new surroundings and realise that we are separate from our physical body which is left behind, we might be aware that there are voices trying to be heard (Can You Hear Me 07) which are the voices of our guides.
Once we have met our guides, and the reality sinks in further, our minds may oscillate between nostalgia for what went before (Before 08) and then forward into the strange and alien present with a question, Who Am I Now? (Track 09).

We are then invited to review our lives, (It's Your Life 10) which is both fascinating and uncomfortable and perhaps reveals some truths (Ego 11).

We also realise that we do not need to fight this, we can let go of personal recrimination, we can be more honest. we can accept ourselves without judgement, because that is the environment in which we find ourselves. The only judge and jury is in fact within us. (Surrender 12).

The final part opens with a joyous reunion with our soul family (Reunion 13), and we allow ourselves to consider the people we've left behind, Shooting Star (14) which reinforces belief in the concept of familiar signs and signals from either plane to the other.

We consider returning to the earth plane and entertain the concept of 'Another Life' (15), a chance to right wrongs or attempt to pick up where we left off and then there's a track illustrating a touching dialogue between the spirit world and those left on the physical plane (I Am Here For You 16).

The album closes with a triumphant and jubilant Ode to Life, a celebration of all that is, has been and will be.
