Brought up on a farm, Helen has been a lover of nature since a child. She recently came across a project she completed in the school Easter holidays when she was 10, where she documented (to use the word loosely!) the activity of a song thrush’s nest!
“During lockdown, we’ve all been aware of the sounds of nature more than usual and whenever conditions have allowed (no rain, wind or sound bleed from ‘life’!) I’ve been recording the call of the birds and sounds around me, in the garden and on walks. This has resulted in hours and hours of footage and audio recordings, which will form the basis of an anticipated EP inspired by Nature. The first completed track from this is Song Thrush Serenade and it is being released on 9th April.
Having isolated ‘clean’ recordings and a variety of calls, my next job was to determine the key in which the bird sang and the beats per minute so I didn’t have to manipulate the recordings and could keep them pure and whole. Having done this (C major and 96 beats per minute in case you’re interested), I set about creating a structure for the track (chorus, pre chorus and chorus) and a sympathetic accompaniment. I hope you enjoy the result!”
